Kyle's story

My name is Marty Valle, I am the mother of Kyle Rodas, who has been fighting cancer for thirteen years. His battle began the day he turned fifteen months old back in 1997.

He was originally diagnosed with Leukemia. As one can imagine hearing this news just crumbled our world. It made us feel helpless and hopeless. From that moment on my son went from surgery to Chemo therapy, and from Chemo to Radiation therapy. He relapsed twice and waited for a marrow transplant that never came. We were finally told to take our son home to die because there was nothing else that could be done... yet somehow he survived.

All this time he has dealt with the aftermath of his chemo and radiation. On and off to doctors, clinicsand hospitals. He has battled infection, hernia, learning disabilities and worse of all ridicules from people that do not understand. By grace of God he crossed the one yr. mark, the fifth and so on. He was considered cured, he was the "miracle baby".

Eventhough his life has been a struggle, he lived as normal as possible. He played football and practiced martial arts, He looked forward to the future.

To our amazement, what started as a simple check up, has turned into our worst nightmare. The same day thirteen years later we were told that he has cancerous tumors in his brain. This time it's not Leukemia but a different kind of cancer. Once again our world has collapsed.

This time is different, however, not only because of the diagnose, but becauseour son now reasonsand can decide. We had to tell our son what it all meant.

We were optimistic about his chances, but after all the options were presented and no guarantee wasgiven, he has decided not to suffer anymore. He has limited time on this earth.
